THE HERMITAGE AND THEIR REFORMATIONS

Already centered in the analysis of the Hermitage of Escardiel, it is necessary to say that data of the same one are ignored, apart from those of their existence mentioned in different testaments of the XVII century as that of Julio 1567 in the one that some doors are bequeathed for the same one, until the year of 1656 in the one that after one taking of bills made by the Mr. Prior of the Hermitages of the Archbishopric of Seville (5), you proceeds to inventory the goods of the Brotherhood of Our Mrs. of Escardiel, being reflected the existence of two altars in the Hermitage, the central one dedicated to Our Mrs. of Escardiel, and to the right of the same one, altar in form of Cruz dedicated to the Christ of the Jeans. In any way the data of the relating Brotherhood to the XVII century are centered fundamentally in the tackle and jewels of the same one, being obviated in all the conserved inventories the data that refer to the Hermitage and their environment.
It is with the arrival of the XVIII century when you begins to approach all the relating topics to the conservation of the Hermitage in a more meticulous way. They highlight in this work the contained data in the books of visits of the Archbishopric (6), in those that I taste recogende way more or less detailed relating data like the Hermitage; This way, in the corresponding to the year of 1726 is reflected as The Hermitta of Our Mrs. of Escardiel distta half league estta dezentte and in them you zelebra especially the day of their festivity q is to the agostto quinze; he/she takes care of having it clean a man anziano and of good life that he/she lives in contiguous quartto of this Hermitta" (7). In a same way he/she is reflected in the visit rotated in the year of 1737 in which one says: " The hermitta of Nuetra Mrs. of Escardiel to half league of the Villa the q recognized and find in regulating desensia and with the necessary thing for zelebrar in her the Sacred Sacrifice of the mass like in efectto you zelebra."
In a same way, of the contracts taken place by the Brotherhood in the XVIII century diverse data of the Hermitage they are deduced; This way during the year 1732 the first works adults took place documented on the same one. Indeed we are said that the Brotherhood sells some houses that he/she had in property in the Villa for: "With their value to conclude the pending work that in this Hermitta oh oara their carpentry repair and masonry and not to have other goods but promptos for the finalizacion of the this work". (8)

But the most important work of which written data are conserved, is the corresponding to the derived year 1755 of the consequences of the denominated earthquake of Lisbon". This earthquake causes serious damages in the Hermitage, until the point of ruining its main cover, for that that the City council of Castilblanco a receiver constituted in charge of picking up how many contributions they were made in the Villa with the purpose of reconstructing the parts affected by the ruin. Of these receiver's picked up data the reach of the work is deduced that affected the one referred main cover, to the external roof of the building, repair of the steeple and reconstruction of the alfarje of the Hermitage (9). it is a true reconstruction of the old roof, conquered because of the time that will be increased with the effects of the call earthquake of Lisbon that, in full works, it will ruin the old main cover of the Hermitage and he/she will make necessary its reconstruction. The whole work will be directed by Teacher Pedro Alonso, teacher of works and nation Portuguese, to who the Fraternity will trust the address of the same one. For this work it will be created, of conformity among the City council of the Villa, the Prior of Hermitages and the Brotherhood of Escardiel, a receiver that will trust in charge of Juan Peres Moreno. This way, this receiver's bills will suppose the opening of a new book of bills of the Fraternity surrendering the previous to the Library to Surrender under the Prior's of Hermitages custody. The beginning of the new book begins, therefore, with the denominated Autto for ttomar the cuenttas to Juan Peres Moreno of its Administrazion and Receiver that had been to its position". Detailed, in this case, it is the bill that takes that refers in its departures, among other, the following data of the work:
-in as much as to materials employees:
1º.-Ochenta and a real of fleece value of nine sticks that call asnaos to real price of nine of fleece that you/they are of pine of the earth for the portal of the Hermita.

For this important work funds characteristic of the Brotherhood were contributed, but equally the Ayntamiento contributed with the real quantity of 1636. In the way, during the time of the works the Prior of Hermitages gave up the collection of any quantity that the Fraternity had to give him.
During the whole century they are conserved the data equally of those denominated works smaller than the Sanctuary", fundamentally referred to the journey of the tiles of the Hermitage and small rteparaciones in the same one. (10)
The other main work in the Virgin's Hermitage in this century is unwrapped among the years 1775 and 1776. The fact desencadenante of this work is not another that the landslide of the roof of the presbytery that forces to take to the Virgin to the Church, where it will remain for three year-old time. It is conserved of this work the records of the turn from the Virgin to their Hermitage, with marginal inscription of the day in that the presbytery was evicted:
"I send derrivar the Chapel for haser the work Sevastian Días brother and deputed desta fraternity; tube prinsipio the day 18 of January; the derrivo the teacher Joseph of Mayrena and Antonio Rey send vezinos desta Villa; It was hermitaño Juan Losano."
"In Castilblanco in 25 of Septimembre of 1775 years Sebastian Diaz and Juan Romero knowing that the Hermita of Our Mrs. of Escardiel it was the Chapel cayda in earth and that the Birgen this in estta Yglesia without the maior benerazion disusieron to look for teacher that the lebantase and they passed to the City of Seville and to bring it to the one that bino that was Francisco Gomes alarife teacher and it happens there is this Hermita to adjust it in real presio of 2400 that this work is the following one: the presbytery of the Chapel covijarlo with a hanging one and under a common sielo everything with flandes wood, to run the armor of the nabe of the Chapel and their colgadisos and what there are you the Sacristy desemvolverla and to put him new sticks and also to plaster all the walls and to of being the whole work to satisfazion of the parts this ...La lime they gave it of charity ...el rest Sebastian Diaz and Juan Romero they paid it in order to put the Birgen in their Santa House I eat indeed they put it and they placed it and they transferred to their hermita the Ymagen of Our Mrs. of Escardiel it was in the Domingo's afternoon day 12 of April 1776 years old after having been in their parroqial Yglecia three year-old time with the motibo of the reedificación and work so that he/she was given learned maior and benerasion that he/she was given ...fue llebada the Dibina Mrs. in prosesion to their Santa House hasistiendo of he/she lends the Mr. Cure's Joseph Ximenez Theniente... they Put these debotos to their coast nnuevoretablo traiendo teacher of Sebilla..."
The last documented work of the Hermitage of certain entity in this century is carried out in the year 1796, in that the walls and the buttresses are reinforced for which you/they seemed to be giving with the step of the time. (11)
Already entered in the XIX century, and concretely in the year 1802 (12), we are offered a small description of the Hermitage by the Visitor of the Archbishopric that expresses to the effect: "And we pass to the Hermitage of Our Mrs. of Escardiel that estta half league disttantte destta Vª and their he/she comes they are the ss: Firstly the body of Ygª with two nabes, sacristy porch hostelry and he/she marries of the santero; Yttem a golden altarpiece with the effigy of the Mrs. of Dressing; Yttem another altar with a big crucifix inside the stocking orange...". on the other hand, Pascual Madoz in the Geographical and statistical Dictionary of the County of Seville carried out among the years reflective 1845 and 1850 in the data referred to Castilblanco that In their I finish he/she is the Hermitage of Our Mrs. of the Incarnation or of Our Mrs. of Escardiel, half league to the North, without boss and corresponding to the ecclesiastical Jurisdiction". Equally and in way a little detailed, the description of the Hermitage is conserved made by Anastasio Ramos and Rodriguez October 18 1884 in the one that is expressed: "Finds the Hermitage from the Virgin to the North from the Population to half league of distance and in chaparral that takes their name. Ignores their origin. The Chapel is quite old without it can be necessary the time of its construction. It consists of two ships, with twenty sticks of long for twelve of wide. The whole roof is in ramshackle state, being its Fraternity the one in charge of all the belonging to the Sanctuary". (13) This ruin state determined that from the years 1897 to that of 1919 were made works of reconstruction of the roof of the building gradually and of the walls of the South wall that you/they threatened ruin. (14) but these works would not consolidate the building in a definitive way, since in 1935 the group formed by historians Hernandez Diaz, Sancho Corbacho and Collantes of Teran (15), it describes the Hermitage in the following way: "The Hermitage of Our Mrs. of Escardiel it is located in the Meadow the Resnera at 2700kms of the town. It is composed of two ships; the main one is in ruins; he/she has covered to two waters conserving suspenders of their alfarje, it is of type mudejárico. The other ship conserves its lap. The building possesses the traditional orientation and it presents spherical cap in the presbytery". This state motivated that the Cardinal Arzobispo from Seville Don Sure Pedro and Sáez sent ordinance of date 15 of January of 1942 for which authorized to the Fraternity to make works in the Hermitage, works that supposed the reconstruction of the roof of the central ship and the suppression of the ship of the epistle to have caused definitive ruin, being modified then the plant of the building; these works concluded April of 1943 day 17 in that you proceeded to the transfer of the Image of the Virgin of Escardiel from the Parish of Castilblanco to the reconstructed Hermitage.
Of equal it forms, among the years 1972 and 1977 you proceeded to a new reconstruction of the roof of the Hermitage being conserved their previous lines.
The last work assault in the Hermitage was made in the course from the years 1982 to 1984, consisting the same ones on the reconstruction and establishment of the presbytery that he/she threatened ruin, being discovered architectural elements covered in previous works and being built a new altar for the Image of Our Mrs. of Escardiel.
